PALLITE®’s COVID-19 Statement

We at PALLITE® want to reassure our loyal customers and stakeholders that we are doing our utmost to operate our business at full capacity, whilst keeping the health and safety of our workforce at the centre of everything we do.

In line with government guidelines we have made the following changes:

Increased hygiene measures on site

Restricted all internal and external visitors to site

Increased use of virtual meetings with our workforce, customers and suppliers

Ensured our workforce understand and follow the NHS guidelines for self-isolation

Worked with our raw material suppliers & hauliers to minimise risk of disruption

Increased social distancing in place at factory. Two-person jobs now single-person, only irrespective of any reduction in output

We are actively monitoring the situation and published guidance from the NHS, WHO and the government.

Our sales team remain available and willing to support our customers and their supply chains through these uncertain times.

We are currently operating ‘business as usual’ and are capable of shipping high volumes of standard products such as pallets and layer boards at short notice if needed.


There are few industries where cleanliness and hygiene are as important as they are in the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors. From manufacturing to distribution, every element of the supply chain for pharmaceutical products must adhere to the strictest quality control and clinical standards. The potential consequences of breaching these standards are unthinkable. Even the smallest mistake or loss of hygiene control can destroy medicines – making them at best ineffective and at worst potentially harmful to the very patients they are intended to treat. Previously, outer packaging products were not included in quality control programmes, and some of the industry’s biggest pharmaceutical manufacturers have in the past been forced to issue product recalls following contamination from bacteria found within the wooden pallets on which items were transported. As well as potentially compromising patient safety, contamination incidents like these can cost companies millions in legal bills, recall processes and brand damage. Pfizer’s recall of 360,000 bottles of one of its drugs in 2010, followed by three similar incidents the following year, is estimated to have cost the company $900 million in the space of 12 months. It is clear there is a need for a cleaner alternative to wooden packaging products. One obvious alternative is plastic, but there are other – more cost-effective – choices businesses can make for their transportation and warehouse storage needs. Enter PALLITE®.
Made entirely from recycled paper and PVA glue, the PALLITE® range has a significantly lower moisture content than wood, making it resistant to mould and harmful bacteria. It also contains no nails and does not splinter like wood, removing two further potential causes of damage to consignments and therefore contamination. Like plastic, PALLITE® pallets don’t need to be treated with chemicals to preserve the material or to destroy pests. PALLITE® pallets are fully stretch-wrapped, eliminating potential contamination from birds and rodents. They are suitable to be taken directly into pharmaceutical packaging areas, and for internal storage in clean rooms, reducing the need for additional handling or re-palletising. PALLITE® pallets have the edge over plastic as they can be onward shipped without further handling or great expense.
Premium protection
At PALLITE®, we understand that high-value items of medical equipment and potentially life-saving drugs require the very highest standards of protection at all times. Our insulated pallet boxes offer an extra layer of protection for valuable consignments, while custom inserts reduce movement and provide cushioning against shocks and drops. Made from 25mm paper walls constructed with honeycomb-cell technology for added strength, our pallet boxes guard against impact during storage, handling and transit, as well as reduce the likelihood of water ingress that can damage interior packaging and lead to product degradation. They also keep chilled medicines cold for longer, thanks to up to 12% more insulation than corrugate alternatives.
A genuine alternative to plastic
There are many instances where businesses could save themselves money while still receiving the necessary specification of packaging by switching to PALLITE®. Costing up to three times more than wooden pallets, plastic pallets are an expensive option for one-way or export shipping where pallets are not returned. A more cost-effective alternative pallet for one-way or export, and significantly lighter than wood, PALLITE® is a great option for companies looking to air freight or ship their products. In addition, the UK Government is seeking to abolish plastic waste by 2042 and is increasingly targeting single-use plastics like packaging through high-cost packaging recovery notes. This move towards more environmentally-friendly forms of packaging will also be increasingly desired by consumers. Made from recycled waste paper, and able to be disposed of through traditional paper and card recycling schemes, PALLITE® products are more eco-friendly than plastic pallets, which must be melted down and remoulded before they can be recycled into new pallets.
