What is EcoLITE?

A lighter-weight, lower-cost version of our innovative paper fibre board, EcoLITE draws its protective properties from the same honeycomb cell technology that features in all our high-quality, paper-based packaging products. Found throughout nature, honeycomb structures are space-efficient, lightweight and pound-for-pound stronger than steel, affording them superior ability to protect, cushion and absorb shock.
AN ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY ALTERNATIVE TO POLYSTYRENE AND FOAM
Made from 100% recycled fibre, and 100% recyclable at the kerbside, EcoLITE is ideal for use as void filler, corner protection, edge protection, a wraparound solution – making it a viable, sustainable alternative to expanded polystyrene (EPS) and polyethylene (PE) foam. A FLEXIBLE SOLUTION
Available in 15mm, 18mm, 25mm and 50mm depths as standard, EcoLITE can be sold on pallets by the sheet or cut to bespoke designs. EcoLITE’s flexibility and wide range of uses make it an ideal product for use in a variety of industrial applications.

The plastic packaging problem
More than 350,000 tonnes of EPS foam is used in packaging annually. It is a cheap and flexible solution. So, why stop using single-use plastic packaging now?
THE RIGHT THING TO DO
Global plastic production has increased exponentially over the past 50 years and is expected to double again over the next two decades. Around 40% of the more than 300 million tonnes produced each year is used in packaging and an estimated 72% of this is either sent to landfill after use or illegally dumped or littered. Leading research suggests a staggering eight million tonnes of plastics leak into the ocean each year – equivalent to dumping the contents of a lorryload of household waste into the water every minute. Many of these plastics do not biodegrade and can take thousands of years to break down, harming wildlife and ecosystems in the process.

PLASTIC PACKAGING’S DAYS ARE NUMBERED
More than 60 countries worldwide have introduced bans or levies to curb single-use plastic waste. In April 2022, the UK Government will introduce a tax on plastic packaging with recycled content of less than 30%. It also plans to extend producer responsibility for disposal, with the aim of ensuring all plastic packaging is recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025. In addition, businesses that operate within the EU will need to abide by the Single Use Plastic Directive when it comes into force in 2021.
THE TIME IS NOW
Two-thirds of consumers cite environmentally-friendly, recyclable packaging as important to them. Studies show 3 in 4 people are willing to pay more for sustainable packaging – nearly a quarter of these 10% or more. Businesses can no longer pay lip service to the environment; now, more than ever, we are being held to account by our customers for the effect our actions have on the world around us.
Why paper packaging?
It is hard to imagine a paper product could protect the most fragile items, or lift heavy weights with ease – but that’s exactly what paper-based packaging can do. PALLITE® is constantly innovating and coming up with new and different uses for the products we make.
There are few limits to what you can do with paper and honeycomb board packaging. Want your packaging to transform into a point-of-purchase display? Need to protect fragile components or delicate fresh fruit and vegetables during transit? It can do both. Paper also has great thermal properties, making it suitable for transporting products that need to be kept cool in transit.

Ethically-sourced paper is a sustainable, renewable resource that is significantly better for the environment than polystyrene and foam. In the UK, more than 80% of paper is recycled by end users and used to make new products, saving energy, reducing water pollution and lowering air pollution.
CONSUMERS PREFER IT
A Paper and Packaging Board (PPB) survey found 71% were more likely to buy from brands that packaged their products in paper or cardboard. The ‘unboxing’ trend on social media is testament to the power of paper-based packaging to create a positive user experience equivalent to the pleasure gained from shopping in-store.
