PALLITE®’s COVID-19 Statement

PALLITE®’s COVID-19 Statement

We at PALLITE® want to reassure our loyal customers and stakeholders that we are doing our utmost to operate our business at full capacity, whilst keeping the health and safety of our workforce at the centre of everything we do.

In line with government guidelines we have made the following changes:

Increased hygiene measures on site

Restricted all internal and external visitors to site

Increased use of virtual meetings with our workforce, customers and suppliers

Ensured our workforce understand and follow the NHS guidelines for self-isolation

Worked with our raw material suppliers & hauliers to minimise risk of disruption

Increased social distancing in place at factory. Two-person jobs now single-person, only irrespective of any reduction in output

We are actively monitoring the situation and published guidance from the NHS, WHO and the government.

Our sales team remain available and willing to support our customers and their supply chains through these uncertain times.

We are currently operating ‘business as usual’ and are capable of shipping high volumes of standard products such as pallets and layer boards at short notice if needed.

We only have one planet, and we all need to play our part in looking after it. In 2019, this is no longer a statement in dispute. The need to fight climate change and protect the earth’s natural resources is well-known, although we all sometimes fall short of committing to the changes needed to make it happen.

Businesses, increasingly exposed to the most competitive of marketplaces and at the mercy of customers with ever-more power when it comes to choosing how, when and with whom to spend their money, will be acutely aware of the need to become more environmentally-friendly in all their operations. Today’s increasingly savvy consumers are starting to vote with their feet, and no longer is it considered acceptable for a business to turn a blind eye to the environment.

With demand remaining high, and under increasing pressure for shorter lead times, companies that need to transport their products will be under more pressure than most, with all forms of transport having the potential for negative effects on the environment. So, how can companies ensure their logistics operations are as environmentally-friendly as possible, without it costing them the earth?

PALLITE® is the solution

Here at PALLITE®, we have developed a range of environmentally-friendly packaging products that provide a genuine alternative to some of the less eco-friendly options out there and – what’s more – can actually save businesses money in their operations.

Life-cycle of the PALLITE® Pallet and Pallet Box

Life-cycle of the PALLITE® Pallet and Pallet Box

All our products are made from just two materials – recycled waste paper and PVA glue. Made from more than 80% recycled materials from carefully managed sources, and themselves 100% recyclable after use, they are proven in independent tests to be a more sustainable alternative to wooden pallets and crates. Due to their innovative design, they are super strong and offer a number of benefits in use that contribute to driving down the total cost of distribution for our customers, including significant weight savings and the ability to be double-stacked in lorries without crushing valuable product.

Environmentally-friendly in use

But PALLITE® products aren’t just environmentally-friendly by design; they also continue to save the planet each and every time you use them.

Independent tests found the standard PALLITE® pallet, used on a 500-mile road journey, results in 21.04kg less carbon dioxide equivalent than a comparable wooden pallet. Put simply, that is lower greenhouse gas emissions and therefore less potential to contribute to global warming.

For example, if you substituted 26 standard wooden pallets each holding 500kg for the same number of PALLITE® pallets carrying the same amount of weight, loaded them into a 30-tonne lorry and drove the 347 miles (558km) from Wellingborough to Glasgow, the greenhouse gas emissions you would save on just that one journey would be the equivalent of charging 29,200 smartphones. What’s more, a 0.612 tonne weight saving thanks to our lightweight pallets would also result in the lorry using more than 100 litres less diesel, saving you around £135 on just that one journey.

There are savings to be made even on shorter journeys, with a smaller load. For example, if you substituted five wooden euro pallets each holding 200kg for the same number of PALLITE® euro pallets carrying the same amount of weight, loaded them into a large van and drove the 144 miles (232km) from Birmingham to Swansea, the greenhouse gas emissions you would save on that journey would be the equivalent of charging another 1,658 smartphones. The 0.118 tonne weight saving from switching from heavy wooden pallets to lightweight PALLITE® pallets would mean you would use 6.6 litres less diesel, saving another £8.49 based on current fuel prices.

With both environmental and financial savings to be made on each journey, these examples clearly show the benefits for companies big and small in using PALLITE® products for their road transport needs.
